The Gotland ferry has no single fixed car fare. Date, sailing, passenger count, actual vehicle dimensions and ticket conditions determine the price.
Start in Destination Gotland's current booking flow with the correct port, date and vehicle. Compare at least two alternative sailings before choosing.
Price the outward and return crossings separately
Checked on 8 October 2026, Destination Gotland's vehicle packages start at SEK 1,250 below 6 metres, SEK 1,350 at 6–9 metres, SEK 1,450 for a motorhome above 9 metres and SEK 1,500 for a car below 6 metres with a caravan. Up to five people are included.
These are one-way online fares for selected sailings. Search the return with the same passengers and vehicle measurements; doubling the first advertised fare does not give you a confirmed return price.
Compare the fare with the whole travel day
For a family needing a night near the port, I would compare it like this. Suppose a convenient outward sailing costs SEK 1,500 and the return SEK 1,800: the ferry total is SEK 3,300. An earlier sailing at SEK 1,250, the same return and a hotel night at SEK 900 instead total SEK 3,950.
The fare is lower. The trip costs more. In this invented example, the hotel absorbs the saving and adds SEK 650 before fuel and meals enter the calculation.
Try other dates and sailings
Destination Gotland uses dynamic pricing. A popular July Friday can therefore cost more than an October weekday, and two sailings on the same day can differ in price.
Compare a couple of alternatives with the same vehicle, passengers and ticket conditions. Then add the drive to the port and any overnight stay to each option.
Measure the vehicle as it will board
Ferry space depends on actual length and height, not only the base vehicle model. Include:
- roof box, rooftop tent, rack and roof-mounted bicycles
- rear bicycle carrier, spare wheel or projecting load
- motorhome ladders and external boxes
- towbar, trailer and caravan as the complete outfit
A small change can cross a vehicle-category boundary. Measure rather than guess, particularly before travelling to Gotland with a rooftop tent.
Compare Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn as full routes
Nynäshamn may suit Stockholm, Mälardalen and northern origins even when an Oskarshamn sailing appears cheaper. From southern Sweden, the reverse may be true.
Add fuel or charging, meals, a possible pre-ferry night, departure time from home, check-in margin and how tired the party will be on arrival in Visby.
Check the operator's current opening and closing times for vehicle check-in. Do not rely on last season's figures when building a tight drive to the port.
Choose ticket conditions for each crossing
The operator's ticket terms, checked on 8 October 2026, make Mini non-changeable and non-refundable. Flexi adds 20 per cent, which is not refunded; Flexi+ adds 30 per cent, included in a refund. Both allow changes or cancellation until one hour before departure.
You can choose different ticket types for the outward and return sailings, but cannot switch type after completing the booking. Alla+bilen and Alla+husbil are fixed packages without changes or refunds. Choose the conditions before paying, especially when the return date is uncertain.
Keep the comparison for the next Gotland trip
If a night in Nynäshamn made the morning ferry possible, keep that cost alongside the fare. A trip note might read “return ferry SEK 3,300, hotel SEK 900”, using the amounts you actually paid.
