Bring your saved map places
Move selected Google places into your private FARON archive
Years of saved viewpoints, campsites and future stops do not need to become a manual re-entry project. Export a copy through Google Takeout, preview it in FARON and choose the places worth carrying forward.
Old map lists mix several kinds of intention
A Google list may contain places already visited, tips from friends and a possible overnight stop for next summer.
Importing everything blindly would preserve the file but not the distinction. FARON shows the parsed points first so you can select and classify them.
Preview before anything reaches the archive
Create the Google archive
In Google Takeout, select the Maps data relevant to your account. My Maps can be included when you also need your own map layers.
Upload the supported file
FARON reads the Takeout ZIP or a KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or JSON map file supplied directly.
Search, select and import
Review what was found, choose individual places and save only the selection. Repeat-file duplicates are skipped where FARON can identify them.
Separate a visited stop from a place for next year
The café outside Mora belongs to the history. A campsite near Åre is only an idea. A forest clearing might be a possible overnight stop.
Mark each according to what you know now. A place in Want to visit remains planning material until you later log it as an actual stop or overnight stay.
The upload is a review step, not an automatic rewrite
FARON distinguishes place import from trip import. Google and map files provide saved points; Polarsteps and GPX routes are separate ways to reconstruct journeys.
Frequently asked questions
Is Google Takeout the only import route?
No. FARON also reads direct KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and JSON map files, while Polarsteps and GPX are used for travel routes.
Can I choose which places are imported?
Yes. Search, select and deselect places in the preview before saving anything.
Will the same file create duplicates twice?
FARON attempts to recognise and skip duplicate places when the same material is imported again.
Does every imported point become an overnight stay?
No. The importer starts from places and may suggest possible overnight stops from names or layers, but you make the final selection.
Can I keep points for a future trip?
Yes. Selected places can enter the archive as historical places or remain under Want to visit for later planning.
