Two kinds of history
An automatic movement history and a chosen travel archive answer different questions
Google Maps Timeline can remember visits and routes automatically after you turn it on. FARON starts from the opposite direction: nothing becomes part of your archive until you add the trip, night or stop yourself.
More recorded movement does not always mean a clearer memory
An automatic history can reconstruct where a device went and when. It may also contain everyday movement, corrections and places that never mattered as travel memories.
A curated archive is smaller by design. Its value comes from the decisions about what belongs.
Decide which kind of record you need
Timeline records after opt-in
Google says Timeline is off by default and automatically saves visits and routes when the user enables it.
FARON waits for an action
A location enters FARON when you log an overnight stay, stop or other trip detail.
Both remain manageable
Google provides controls to edit or delete Timeline; FARON lets you edit the selected archive and download account data.
A month with one journey worth keeping
Timeline may contain commutes, errands and a four-day road trip. That breadth is useful when the question is where the device went.
FARON can contain only the road trip: its three nights, two stops and chosen photos. Less data. More deliberate context.
FARON does not require a background trail
Its map and statistics are based on entries you actively save, so a private travel archive can exist without continuous location access.
Frequently asked questions
Is Google Maps Timeline automatic?
It can automatically save visits and routes after the user explicitly enables Timeline; Google says it is off by default.
Does FARON import every movement?
No. FARON is built around selected trips, overnight stays and stops rather than a complete background history.
Can Timeline data be edited or deleted?
Yes. Google provides controls to edit visits and routes and delete all or parts of Timeline data.
Which is better?
Use Timeline for an opt-in automatic location history and FARON for a deliberately curated travel archive. The better fit depends on the record you want.
