Annual price. Monthly price. Free tier. Travel habits. Polarsteps Plus suits a traveller who wants more from an automatically tracked journey. FARON Premium suits someone building a private archive that remains useful next summer.
Imagine Anna and Erik taking the same Volkswagen California, Märta, from Mora towards Åre. Anna wants automatic tracking, family followers and a later 3D replay. Erik selects five nights and eight stops, adds photographs and writes what was good, bad or worth revisiting.
Both save the trip. Only one is deliberately preparing evidence for the next one.
Use Polarsteps free for the journey itself
Polarsteps does not require Plus for its central experience. Its free app can plan, track, share and revisit trips, while other people follow the journey as it develops.
Anna can therefore start tracking when Märta leaves Mora and let her family follow without first buying a subscription. When the aim is a continuous route, live documentation and sharing, the free tier may be enough.
Add Polarsteps Plus for presentation and route detail
When checked on 22 August 2026, Polarsteps Plus was listed at €8.99 per month or €29.99 per year. Polarsteps says regional prices can vary, so the current in-app offer is authoritative.
Plus includes 3D maps, additional map styles, Play mode, detailed statistics for individual steps, elevation profiles and up to ten Travel Buddies. The annual plan also listed a 20% Travel Book discount.
Those features are most compelling when the route itself is a major part of the memory. A journey through Dalarna and Jämtland gains terrain, movement and more statistics instead of remaining a line on a map.
Use FARON for the detail needed next time
FARON starts with another problem. The destination remains memorable; level ground, the narrow entrance and the stop that looked better online disappear first.
Erik does not save every metre between Mora and Åre. He saves five nights and eight stops. One entry says “quiet after 21:00, morning sun, narrow entrance”. Another records that the bathing place was good but its car park filled before 11:00.
A year later, that knowledge still belongs to the correct trip and place. The archive grows more useful with every season, and does not require continuous background tracking.

| 3D and statistics | 3D maps, Play mode, elevation and detailed step statistics with Plus | Maps, statistics, reports and route replay centred on the private archive |

Price alone does not settle the comparison. The products charge for different kinds of value and use different currencies. Ask what you want to retain after the trip ends.

Choose Polarsteps Plus for the recorded route
Choose Plus when you already enjoy Polarsteps and want richer presentation, an elevation profile, Play mode, deeper step statistics or more Travel Buddies. The product is strong when the route and the journey's unfolding story remain central.
For the underlying workflow comparison, see automatic route tracking versus selected nights and stops.
Choose FARON Premium for a reusable private archive
A GPS line can show that you passed a lake in 2025. A saved night can also say that the access became poor after rain, the pitch fitted a motorhome but not a long trailer and you would return.
That knowledge gains value each season. It suits recurring motorhome, caravan, vanlife, rooftop-tent and car trips where places reappear over several years. The archive is private by default, with selected sharing when wanted.

Start in Polarsteps and continue in FARON
The choice does not have to happen on day one. Track the journey in Polarsteps, then preview a Polarsteps export before saving it in FARON. Export formats can vary, so review the imported trip rather than expecting every external detail to remain identical.
For some travellers, Polarsteps records the trip while it happens and FARON preserves the selected experience. Others can use FARON from the beginning when automatic tracking is unnecessary.
